Lady Beltane - water mixable oils on cardboard.
Whilst working on my latest project (to be revealed soon), I squeezed too much paint out and couldn't put it back in the tubes. So I used it up by creating a quick Beltane painting.
Beltane, for those who don't know, is a Gaelic Festival starting at sunset on 30th April until sunset on 1st May, also known as May Eve or May Day. It takes place midway between Spring equinox and Summer solstice. It's also known as witches night and the first of what the Welsh call the Tree Spirit Nights (the other two being Midsummer and Samhain).
'Metaphysically understood as the point in time when earth's generative and sexual powers are at their peak'. From the Library of Esoterica - Witchcraft
'Acceptance. Change is everywhere. All is growing, moving, becoming. Leaves unfurl, flowers open, bare soil is covered with green. Change is constant throughout the seasons and never more so than at the fertile festival of Beltane. Accept that change can be beautiful, embrace the possibilities it brings'. From Liz Proctor in Earth Pathways Diary.
I got into the spirit of it with some music, some hip swaying and arms held above my head, then painted quickly. This painting is what appeared.
